In Amibroker, backfill loads past candles for a symbol so your charts and indicators have history. The live feed then adds new ticks on top of it.
Amiprofits includes 1 year of 1-minute backfill and 20 years of end of day history with real-time tick data.
What Amibroker backfill is and why it matters
A live feed only shows what happens after you connect. If you open AmiBroker at 11 a.m., a 1-minute chart would start at 11 a.m. unless history is added. Backfill fills in the earlier candles so moving averages, VWAP style formulas and other indicators have enough bars to calculate correctly.
When to run backfill
- When you add a new symbol. A new symbol starts empty, so load its history first.
- After a long break. If the feed was off for days, run backfill to fill the gap.
- When candles are missing. If the chart shows gaps in 1-minute bars, backfill that symbol and refresh the chart.
- Before a backtest. Make sure the history you test on is complete, or the results will be misleading.
