How to Set Up AmiBroker for Live Intraday Charts: 6 Settings

The short answer
6 settings for live intraday charts in AmiBroker

To get live intraday charts in AmiBroker, connect a real-time data feed, set the database base time interval to 1 minute, load enough bars, check the time zone, keep the symbol watchlist matched to your feeder, and run backfill for history.

Amiprofits includes real-time tick data and 1 year of 1-minute backfill, so charts have both live updates and history.

How to set up AmiBroker for live intraday charts

  1. Connect a real-time feed. AmiBroker needs a data source to update live. Follow the installation steps for your feed and keep both programs running as administrator.
  2. Set the base time interval to 1 minute. Open the database settings and set the base time interval to 1 minute so AmiBroker can build 1-minute candles and every higher timeframe from them.
  3. Load enough bars. Set the number of bars high enough for your indicators to warm up. Raise it only if you need longer history, because very high values slow charts on older PCs.
  4. Check the time zone. A wrong time zone shifts every candle and makes the opening bar look wrong. Match it to the market you trade.
  5. Match your watchlist to the feeder. Only symbols added in the feeder receive live ticks. Add every symbol you chart.
  6. Run backfill. Backfill fills in 1-minute candles from before you started the feed, so indicators on a fresh chart have history. Read tick data vs 1-minute data to see how much you need.

Checks after setup

Live candle movesThe last candle should change during market hours.
History is thereScroll back and look for gaps in 1-minute candles.
Time looks rightThe first candle should match the market open.
Watchlist updatesEvery symbol you track shows new prices.

If it still does not update

Most problems come from the feeder not running as administrator, the AmiBroker toggle being off or a symbol missing from the feeder. Our troubleshooting guide covers eight common fixes. If you trade intraday, see what to check in a feed in the intraday trading guide, and pricing is in the price guide (₹699 a month, ₹449 for the first month for new users). AmiBroker′s own documentation on quotes and data sources is a useful reference.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my AmiBroker chart not show 1-minute candles?

Check that the database base time interval is set to 1 minute and that the symbol has intraday data. If candles are missing, run backfill for that symbol.

How many bars should I load for intraday charts?

Load enough bars for your indicators to warm up, then raise the number only if you need longer history. Very high values can slow charts on older PCs.

Do I need a real-time data feed for live charts?

Yes. AmiBroker does not include live market data on its own, so you need a data feed to update charts in real time.

Is the setup the same for every data feed?

The AmiBroker settings are similar, but each feed has its own installer and connection steps. Follow the setup guide for your feed.
